From Our Table To Yours
A Zine on Consent & Boundaries
by South Asian SOAR’s Community Organizers
Published November 18th, 2024
We believe that real change starts with honest conversations, even when those conversations are tough.
Our zine is rooted in a shared vision of a future free from violence—where our communities feel supported in building healthy relationships and achieving reproductive justice.

We’re serving up our musings on consent and boundaries in a four-course meal based on the nested “Social Ecological Model,” which frames consent and boundaries at different levels. Many factors affect how and when consent is or is not practiced, and this model helps illustrate how everyone and everything, from our families to our government, play a role. Yet, in many places, consent education is inconsistent or missing altogether, leaving a lot of us without the language or tools to talk about it openly.
What’s in the Zine?
To support your use of the zine, we have included reflection questions, exercises, and frameworks of consent for you to engage with.
Between each section, we share the story of one family’s conversations about consent and boundaries. By including these stories, we hope to make this information more digestible!
While they might not perfectly mirror your own family and community dynamics, we hope they challenge common assumptions about how people of different generations and perspectives engage in brave conversations.
Why We Created this Zine
In our communities, reproductive justice isn’t just about having choices; it’s about feeling safe, respected, and able to make decisions about our bodies and relationships. Consent is central to this vision, as it protects our right to autonomy and personal boundaries.
Yet, in many places, consent education is inconsistent or missing altogether, leaving a lot of us without the language or tools to talk about it openly.
This zine is here to make these conversations easier. We know that talking about consent and boundaries can feel abstract or even awkward, but these ideas are foundational for building strong, respectful relationships.
By making consent education accessible and engaging, we hope to help spark more dialogue around sexual and reproductive wellness in our families and communities.
Through personal stories and community insights, this zine explores consent, boundaries, and how to navigate relationship dynamics in a South Asian context.
It’s an invitation to start conversations that matter. Whether you’re someone who’s often the one starting these conversations, or you’re new to them, we hope this zine supports you in bringing these ideas home and creating more compassionate spaces.
Consent isn’t just a right; it’s the path toward reproductive justice and preventing gender-based violence.
